Speakeasy presents…
Nelward Live Band, Sudie, Black Obsidian
8pm / $15 / 21+
From the ADHD mind of someone growing up immersed in digital age stimuli comes the music of NELWARD. Nelward's broadly influenced style blends the smooth melodies of Japanese City Pop with the manic production of Hyperpop (minus the pitched up vocals). Beneath the “anything goes” approach to style, the core of Nelward’s appeal is catchy songs for the people.
In a long awaited move, nelward has assembled a live band. He has employed the agile jazz drumming of Jordan Holliman and the precise bass playing of Curtis Johnson for a thunderous rythm section that brings the songs new life. Nelward’s guitar playing is much more present in this incarnation than his previous solo sets, elevating his theatrical vocal style. Ableton Live, the honorary 4th member of the band, fills out the sound with the lush textures nelward’s music is known for, along with providing interesting and often funny visuals.
